Aramco Overseas Company B.V. is developing an international project named King Salman International Complex for Maritime Industries and Services, to be constructed at Ras Al Khair, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The anticipated area of the site is estimated at around 6 million m2 of which approx. 3.8 million m2 will be reclaimed.
In order to achieve the project specification Menard was required to perform Dynamic Compaction (DC), Vibro Compaction (VC) and Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC).
The choice of each technique was made in relation to the depth of improvement with the shallow depth from 1 to 5m improved using Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC), 5 to 8m using Dynamic Compaction (DC) and deeper than 8m using Vibrocompaction (VC).
The project was to be completed in 150 days using 4 DC Rigs, 1 RIC Rig, and 4 VC Rigs.
