As part of the project New Orbital Highway 2 (NOH2), the joint-venture with QDVC and Bin Omran has to build the junction between the new highway and Al Rufaa Street, called Junction 3. Its northern part is located on a landfill. The bearing capacity of the ground was too low to carry the future bridge, hence the need to excavate the area and to backfill it with a material with a suitable bearing capacity. However, the waste in the ground generated a high concentration of hazardous gases: hydrogen sulphide and Methane.
The joint-venture contracted REMEA to treat the area which had to be excavated and to ensure the workers’ safety in relation to the presence of gases during the excavation and the back filling phases.
